Stuffed Animal Organizing the "Simple Home" Way

My children have always loved stuffed animals. The twins still do. They haven't decided they've outgrown playing with them, but I don't want them all over their room, so my solution was a bin in the garage. They keep a few in their room and when they want different ones to play with they "exchange" them with some out in the bin. Yes, that's it. We're not real fancy on the organizing skills around here. Here's a photo of the bin.Oh wait...one of those stuffed animals is moving. We find this kitty in the most interesting places. Here's an earlier post showing another place I found her.

Here's just a tidbit of info about life in the high desert. We don't have fleas. The don't survive here. In fact if you bring an animal with fleas to the high desert, they're going to die quickly. Not the animal, the fleas.
I thought this was something to be proud of until a friend on the east coast told me she'd be a little concerned about living in a place where fleas can't survive. Good point.

It's still nice not getting bit, and those stuffed animals aren't getting infested...with fleas that is. I'm not sure about ants, we have lots of those :-)
Blessings,
Marcia

  1. Those kitties can get in anywhere...such a super soft bed! Did the twins find the kitty sleeping?

Glad to see you were up late too!

  2. I too wish I could sleep anywhere, like a cat, like my husband. We find Jingles in the craziest places too. Sometimes I wander the streets looking for her, afraid she somehow got out, only to find she was quietly hiding away in a lidded box on top of one of the wardrobes in the bedroom. How does she lift the lid and get inside, placing it neatly back on top. I only saw her eyes peaking through at me through a hole in the side. Silly cat! We've given away most of the stuff animals. Both boys still keep some on their beds. Zack complains he can't sleep, too many "animals" but he won't give them away. :)

  3. That's interesting, your in the desert? My son and dil live in Tempe, AZ and I have found it hard to like the desert but I am learning, and now I actually kind of miss it. At first, it was the lack of water and green, but especially now, in January I could love a lot of desert! Hehe. Your kitty looks just like my Cocoa! Have a great day too! Cindy

  4. Our kitties primary goal seems to be comfort. Looks like your finds that to be the case too.

No fleas? That would be nice. We spend a fortune on Frontline each year...but I do hate ants. No Frontline for those.

  5. I put all most of my girls' stuffed animals in a black garbage bag in our stockroom. i was concerned of dust. But I think your idea sounds better. Kids can anytime find them when they want to play with them.

  6. Having lived in a place where fleas take over, I can appreciate the NO Fleas zone. Now I live in a place where ticks are.....don't know which is worse?

  7. Good solution! I love that they still have access to all of their favorites, AND they aren't all over the floor. :)

We kinda just happened upon similar solution, too. We had company for Thanksgiving that needed the twins room, so we had to take all 2000 stuffed animals off of their beds. We put them in a HUGE black bag out in the garage, and they are all slowly making their way back in. ;)

Yay... for NO fleas. We didn't have them in CO either, but we do here. :(

  8. It took me a minute (still working on my coffee) to "get" the picture but when I did I burst out laughing. That cat is adorable!

No fleas, lucky you. You save a small fortune in flea/tick treatments.

  9. I know I'd be happy with no fleas - no , not that I'm infested - just wouldn't want to be!
As for soft toys, there's no way my 5 yo is going to give up any soon!!
    Have a great day

  11. We've used our garage for storing all sorts of toys, Duplos, trains, hot wheels, kitchen/house toys and stuffed animals and dolls. I use large plasitic lidded tubs to keep out moisture/dust. Even before we had a garage I used the tub method to keep the toys sorted. I'm an organizational freak!

  12. Hi Marcia, we tried this idea with our granddaughters stuffed animals but the cat thought it was a litter box. Ick. Ewwwww... we ended up hanging a little hammock up between the corners and the cat couldn't pee in there.

  15. Ha! That is too cute... one of the animals is moving!!
I love stuffed animals too.. in fact, I still have all mine from my childhood.
That is really interesting about the fleas, Marcia.. do you all have mosquitos? We have so much humidity in the summer here in Tennessee, the mosquitos will drive you bonkers.

  16. I think a bin in the garage for animals(stuffed, that is) is a good organizing idea. Always be sure to check your dryer before using. (don't ask how I know kitty's like to curl up in dryers)
That's interesting about fleas and the area you live. I'm sure we (our animals) had fleas when we lived in Tehachapi.

  17. wow, i am just catching up on all these posts. Wow - very interesting about Elvis and meeting Pricilla. Shocked and amazed you are 49 - would never have guessed. You look Fab!! Crazy silly cat! Very good idea with the stuffed animals. I have that problem taming them ;-) Funny about the fleas!! Great post!

Also thanks for your fun comment on my blog! I love your camp story!

  18. Kitties like to curl up in soft, cozy, warm places. That fit the bill perfectly!

The comment your friend made got me to laugh out loud.

Here in the mid-Atlantic where it's warm enough for fleas to live all year long, we use a trans-dermal medicine on our 7 animals and we've never seen a flea.

  19. I'm a dog lover type but that cat is so cute I might change my mind about cats. Well, at least that one! I can't have them because Adam and others are so allergic to them. Right now I don't have any pets, unless you count my husband!!!

  20. Hi Marcia. I had to laugh when I read your post. Love the kitty. We are a few years past the stuffed animals but I do remember trying to weed them out and oh the drama that went on when we couldn't find Simba from Lion King. The tears that flowed...hahahaha...
    Hope you are doing well!
    Blessings,
    Debbie
