Happy Birthday Mom!

Yesterday was my mom's 84th birthday! We celebrated by going out to eat with my parents, my brother and his wife, and my whole family. We had a wonderful time.

I'm blessed with a wonderful mom. She and my dad waited 9 years to become parents. They adopted my brother, and 3 years later I was born to them. My mom always told us that there were two ways to get children and that she and my dad were so lucky because they got one each way.
My mom is also a breast cancer survivor. She had a mastectomy about a year and a half ago. Her attitude through it all was such an inspiration.

She has made quilts for everyone in the family. Here are a couple of the quilts she made for my children.
Another little tidbit about her, she doesn't dye her hair, she's just never grayed! Her mother and her grandmother didn't either. Unfortunately, I'm taking after my dad on that one :-)
Her love for God and her love for her family has always been such a blessing to each one of us.
Happy Birthday Mom, we love you so much!

I hope all of you had a wonderful St. Patrick's Day and that you didn't get pinched! My husband is half Irish, so we all wear green around here or suffer the consequences if we don't :-)
Blessings,
Marcia

  2. Happy Birthday to your Mom. She sure doesn't look 84.
I love all the vintage pictures you have of her. How sweet that she has made quilts for your kids. I'm hoping to make one for each of my grandkids, but I have a long way to go.
I envy her that she doesn't have to color her hair.
Happy St. Paddy's Day. I wore a green sticker today as green isn't a color I have in my wardrobe.

  3. Your mom is so right about the two ways to have children! You know, it was my greatest fear that I would love my biological sons more than my adopted children. But you know what...there is no difference! There is no doubt in my mind, they all are my children. It was so easy to love them. And when I see my boys laugh and play (and quarrel!) with the adopted children, I know they love each other like real brothers and sisters.
    Happy birthday!

  8. This was such a sweet post about your Mom. She sounds like a really special Momma!

I don't even know what to say about her NOT going gray. I didn't even know that was a possibility. haha! I did not get that blessing either. :)

  9. She's so pretty, Marcia!! And in the first photo of her with the family (where you have the two photos side by side), with her hair shorter and a bit more tightly curled? She looks like my mom because it's a distance shot! That's how they wore their hair back then.

I'm envious of the quilt making talent and of owning them. I have a ton of quilts in my house, but only one was hand made! They're lovely and so precious!!

  20. What a sweet tribute to your mother. My grandmother who raised me is turning 81 in a few days, so it's like our mom's are the same age :) I love the picture of her holding your twins!
