Five Question Friday

I'm joining this blog party. The questions change every week and it's fun and easy. I'm a little late in getting to it, but it is still technically Friday, so I'm giving it a try :-)
1. What was the first car you owned?
It was a turquoise blue 1965 Chevy Corvair. Yep, that's right, the car Ralph Nader wrote a book about it in"Unsafe at Any Speed" if you're old enough to remember that :-) I loved this little car though. It was so fun to have guys want to look at the engine, and open up the hood, only to find that it was actually the trunk. The engine was in the back, just like a VW.  This isn't mine, but it's exactly what mine looked like. I wish I still had it. I guess most people feel that way about their first car.

2. What song are you embarrassed to know the lyrics to?
I played keyboard and sang in a little band when I was younger, so there are alot, but right now "She's a Brick House" comes to mind.

3. Have you ever had stitches?
Several times. My first experience with stitches was when I got my wisdom teeth out. I passed out when they took the stitches out. Clip, clip, and I'm waking up to smelling salts. I'm such a lightweight when it comes to that type of thing. No one would have thought I'd ever give birth to 6 kids.

4. What was your first job?
Besides babysitting, my first job was passing out flyers for a real estate agent when I was 13. My friend and I thought we needed a job so we visited a local agency and he paid us to do this. I'd forgotten all about that. I usually say that my first job was working at Pup N Taco :-)

5. Who is your favorite Sesame Street character?
It would have to be Oscar the Grouch, because I played him in a parade in high school. It was not fun walking around carrying a trash can, and no one thought to make a cardboard one and decorate it so I carried the real thing, metal and all, strapped to my shoulders with the bottom cut out. Boy, was I sore by the end of that parade :-)

If you want to join next week, be sure to visit My Little Life. It's a wonderful blog.
Blessings,
Marcia

  2. I love your first car too. I've always wanted an old mustang or camaro from the late 60s early 70s. There's something safe and dangerous about them all at the same time.

  3. Marcia, my first car when I married was a 1960 red Corvair. That's what my husband wanted as soon as he came out of the Air Force. It gave us nothing but trouble all the time we had it. Happy yours was a better one.

  4. Oh, how fun!
I kinds know the lyrics to that song too! lol That is one song that my husband cranks up loud when it is on the radio just to get me to SMILE! We are easily amused! haha!
I'm with you on the stitches thing! Getting them out always makes me wheezy.
Love that first car! Wow! Some day I am gonna be a sporty grandma with a great car instead of the bus I drive now! But Dan just says we will actually be driving a real bus so we can pick up all our grandchildren.
I hope you have a happy Saturday!

  7. Very interesting...loved reading about you. My first car was an old VW Carmengia with the engine in back, I bought it for 400.00 and the transmission went out , had to put 400.00 more in it on a 98 cent waitress wage! Oh the things we go through! :D

  8. This was fun to read, Marcia! I love the one about your first car because, of course, I'm old enough to remember.

My first car was a 1959 VW with no heat. I bought it for $100! :)

  9. My fave character is Elmo. My son had a elmo doll when he was young.. I would do my best to sound like him when we played.
    Have a great day.

  13. I like these too. You get to learn interesting facts about people. I lived by the ocean for the first 50 years of my life. On the central coast of California. I surely do miss the weather but not the summer fog. I have a daughter who lives in Murietta. Is that considered the high desert too? Mimi

  14. Hi Marcia!
    What a great post!

  15. Hi Marcia! It has been far too long since I stopped by to visit. I am going to have a busy date with a huge stack of ironing today but plan to visit bloggers between. I think I am going to have to come back at my next break and catch up more with you. Holding a little giveaway with a bag I made on my handwork blog so stop in if you would like for a chance to win.

    Hugs from Holland ~

  16. Loved getting to know a little more about you.
My hubby had a bronze corvair just like yours when I met him (again) in 1966. We had it until our 2nd son was born and it was stolen from in front of our apartment.
You sang in a band...how cool.
    What a fun blog party.

  19. Hey Marcia, Friday Five sounds like fun! Enjoyed reading your answers. My first car was a green 79 Grand Prix with green interior and an 8 track. No, I do not wish I had that car back. As for the 1987 Toyota Celica I had before coming to Kuwait, loved that car! AND I LOVE ELMO! He's so sweet and cute and red. I'm thinking most people know the words to She's a Brick House. LOL Besides babysitting, my first job was cleaning house for a pregnant lady. She taught me how to clean toilets properly (or at least the way she wanted them done). HA! Hope you are having a great day. Maybe I will join in tomorrow for this -- I surely have a hard time doing those White Wednesdays and Pink Saturdays so those colors aren't in my palette. :) Toodles for now, Tammy

  20. Hi Marcia,
thanks for the comment about our national costume for men, that I totally love! I have one my self, but Egil does not want one, and that is something I work with...! 17 of May is our national day, and we celebrate it grandly! You can read about it here: http://home.online.no/~harc/17mai/eindex.html

Also, we do have a reality show going on right now with Americans competing on finding their Norwegian roots, that you can read about here: http://my.opera.com/ZaraL/blog/2010/04/24/all-for-norway It's very funny and you learn quit a bit about Norway and the Norwegian culture!

About my blog, I wish I had the time to write everything in English as well, but I think you have to settle with the Google, and ask me if you get it to "trouble"!

I'm a little bit better, thanks, and have been outside for a couple of times lately, which is great! 5 weeks now, so that should help!

    Have a nice day!

    Hugs
    Cathrine :-)

  25. I keep learning new things about you!

My first car was a '66 Sunbeam Alpine (like the one in Get Smart). It was a hand-me-down from my dad, and I got several tickets in it. A teenage girl in a sportscar is a magnet for policemen!

  26. Hi Marcia, what a cute post! My first car was a 1974 Mustang. Brand new, raspberry red. My Dad worked at the Ford dealership and I had saved all my working at the farm money for years!

  27. I know the "brick house" song too...by the Commodores, Lionel Richie's old group.

Sometimes I feel guilty singing certain songs around my children because the lyrics are somewhat sensual. But sometimes the beat is too good. :)

Brick house is probably tame nowadays compared to other stuff. :)
