Calico Ghost Town Visit

Earlier this week everyone was home (and off work) and we decided to take a trip to a ghost town about an hour's drive from here.  We hadn't been there in years, in fact the twins had never been there. I guess when you live in the desert, visiting desert locations doesn't appeal to you as much.
That guy in the background is my hubby. 3 of my kids are in the front car of this little train.
We had a great time though, and I'm so glad we went.
My oldest son is the family clown, and when he saw this bathtub, he took his shirt off, hopped in, and asked me to take a photo. He's also a new youth minister. I'm not sure how the new church will feel about this photo, but they're sure to see it as it's now his facebook photo :-)
These photo-ops are several places in town, but are in need of a new coat of paint, I think. Maybe the faded look is for effect.
This is what my family does whenever we get near the edge of a cliff...we throw rocks to see who can throw the farthest.
A little explanation of Calico.
Some of the buildings in town and a town view.
The Indians on the building are permanent residents :-)
Last but not least, our family (minus me, as I was taking the photo).
Have a great weekend.
Blessings,
Marcia

  2. What a fun day together you had!
It looks as though it is a movie set!
Pretty funny pic with 'beef stew' over your hubby's head - he must be on the menu!lol! When we take photos my DH always tries to take pictures with sthg coming out of your head or a weird thing in the background! It's good fun to look back on and laugh about!
    Have a great day!

  7. That first building has really pretty trimmings! How fun to have the whole family together, I know as children get into their 20's it's not always possible! Thanks for sharing this fun little town. If we ever head down that-a-way for a vacation, I'll have to add it to the agenda!

  8. Hi Marcia, that looks like a great place to visit. Growing up, one of our family vacations was to a ghost town but can't remember where it was. Fun family photos. Who says a Youth Minister has to be so serious and proper -- if you want people to listen and learn, humor is the best way to get to them. Have a fabulous Friday and a super weekend. :) Tammy

  9. thank you for visiting me...you look like a really fun homeschooling family. Now where were you when I was homeschooling?! I homeschooled for 15 yrs. This has been my first year not. My oldest works in the Carpentry trade full-time, my second is in college full-time and works at McDonalds, my third will begin her senior year at our public H.S, and fourth soph year at same H.S. I miss homeschooling, but they are flourishing. We still do alot together and are very close. I know how blessed your simple home is. I feel the same way.

  10. Oh I want to go...how much fun!!! Your "soon to be youth director" sounds like my 24 year old who works with youth...the youth will love him!!!
Looks like a great time was had by all...and I know the younger ones will always remember that day, and being with their older siblings.

  15. How nice with a family day out, Marcia, and the ghost town was interesting to see! Talk about desert!!!

We're preparing for going to Denmark next week, and tomorrow we're celebrating my birthday, so I'm making some cakes today and preparing for brunch as well! The weather does not seems good, so I guess it'll be insdoor.

    Have a lovely weekend!

    Hugs,
    Cathrine :-)

    These pictures made me SMILE!
Your son sounds/looks like he is going to be a great youth pastor! A good dose of humor must be a requirement, I think!

  18. Hi Marcia! Oh, what fun and your family all look like they're having a ball. You know what? Many years ago when we lived in New Mexico we decided to take our kids and drive to Disney Land. We stopped at Calico Ghost Town! I have some pictures somewhere! I'm glad to know it's continued to survive!
    Be a sweetie,

  19. A boy's gotta have fun! You have a great looking family. I don't think I could ever stand next to a cliff. I would be scared senseless, afraid I would get vertigo or something and fall off! Have a great holiday weekend.

  26. I've been there!! It's been a long time and you're right, dusty is dusty. Nothing too spectacular when you live in it. Of course now we don't live in it and just looking at Calico is making me thristy :-/
