Vintage 4th of July

When I was growing up, we had fireworks every year. All of the neighbors came out and took turns shooting off theirs, while the children played with sparklers, under their parents close supervision, of course :-) However, most cities in California no longer allow fireworks at home, so my children don't even know what sparklers are. We go to the local fireworks show every year, and it's become a family tradition. Over the years "our spot" has become the place to meet friends and enjoy the show.
I'm joining Joan over at Anything Goes Here and her Vintage 4th of July party. Her parties are always lots of fun, and another place to meet friends and enjoy the show.
Here's an inside view of that card on the right.
I put vintage and newer items together, all with the red, white and blue patriotic theme in mind.
I also pulled out some vintage books to show you. I love the Honey Bunch books, and have quite a few of them. I think they're perfect, because this sweet little girl seems to dress in Independence Day colors.
Do you think the makers of this tray were trying to get her likeness?
I hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July and get to spend the day with the people you love :-)
Blessings,
Marcia

  11. Oh my! I L*O*V*E those books! Now you will have me looking these up online...lol. And you know I love old books too. I so enjoyed reading your comment about your uncle's library like house and him sending you books.

Your 4th of July display is gorgeous. It is hard to believe it is already deep in summer. Where has this year gone to?

We lived in a place where only public organized fireworks were allowed. We went each year to watch them. We did however have sparklers sometimes. We often had a big family eat out at my cousins lake house. Thanks for taking me back down my own memory lane with you...

I wish you and your family a very happy July 4th weekend!

    Hugs from Holland ~

  12. This is great...love the collection. The first time my daughter-in-law saw sparklers were before she married our son...our kids couldn't believe she had never played with them...they scared her.
    Have a happy fourth,
    Janette

  15. Hi Marcia! I feel like it has been so long since we last visited! Things have been very busy...I've posted but haven't had much time to visit! I enjoy this part! I love your vintage display...I can't seem to get enough patriotism the vintage way! Love that last tray too. We have kids home from college now and my parents you know are here so we are cooking 3 meals a day...doing more laundry...etc. Busy but good. Hope your sweet family has a wonderful weekend. You too!
    Blessings,
    Debbie
And thanks for your prayers...they definitely were noticed during rough times.

  16. I really like your patriotic vintage vignette! I think it's a good idea to decorate for all of the holidays. I don't have a lot of 4th of July decorations, but a vignette would be a good idea. Hope you have a great summer, too! ~Janet

  17. Happy Fourth Marcia! While driving across country Zach picked up some fireworks in PA and brought them here. Ryan was scared to death of the sparklers (they were huge - much longer than the ones we used to have). And I thought I'd be arrested for setting off all the noisy, smokey, popping fireworks that Zach insisted on playing with, even though they're illegal!

I love the vintage books! ::Jill

Thanks for the comment on my blog, and Happy 4th of July to you all! Your vintage items looks lovely, and I hope that the celebration was great!

I have not been much of a blogger lately, and I have to blame it on the lovely summer, that we need to enjoy while we have it!

I do hope that you and the family are having a great summer!

  27. Happy 4th! I am late as we were out fireworks hopping from small town to village.
My heart skipped a beat at the Honey Bunch books. I had a collection and they are the only thing I regret leaving at my parents' home when I moved out. doubt I will ever see them again. I do have to show my son the picture as he hears me talk about them often. None to be found here, even in antique stores.

  28. I had to scroll through this post several times to see every detail. I love all your vintage 4th displays. The Hi Soldier card is especially great.
I haven't seen the Honey Bunch books before. I may haveto hunt for those...Kinda reminds me of the Bobbsey Twins.
Hope you and your family enjoyed the 4th. I spent some time yesterday telling some of my grandkids about the way we spent the day when their Dads were growing up in Tehachapi. It was so fun reminescing.

  32. Hi Marcia,
You have some really great vintage 4th of July and patriotic items there. I really love those books!
That's odd to me that they won't even let kids have sparklers at home. Seems like they take all the fun away~ And I was surprised that CA. doesn't even offer shop classes in high school. Whose going to build homes, and be plumbers, electricians and such.
Must be the budget cuts huh?
    Thanks for sharing too,
    Cindy
