White Wednesday Mirror, and Thanks Too!

I'm joining Kathleen over at Faded Charm for my first White Wednesday post. I've loved visiting there each week, and today I wanted to jump in myself.
I had a dark mirror hanging here, but it didn't fit with my summer decor, so when I saw this mirror at a friend's yard sale, I thought it might work.
It was originally gold and I believe it was also hung the other way, but my friend had made some changes, so I just had to bring it home and hang it. No work involved!

It's a solid white, and I'm wondering if I should give it more of a vintage look, but I'm not experienced at that, so to all of you painting experts out there, I'd appreciate any advice you might offer.

I'd also like to thank Michelle at Faith, Trust, & a Little Pixie Dust for the beautiful sweater flowers she sent me. I won them in a recent contest she had. It's a bit too hot for sweaters right now, but I wanted to display them, so I've hung them from my vintage spool holder. It really adds some color to this sweet old piece. I love them Michelle, thanks so much :-)

I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!
Blessings,
Marcia

  7. Hi Marcia,
You can never have too many white mirrors! I think there is nothing prettier than a large one or a group of them hanging on the wall.
Rebecca at a Gathering Place did a post on her wall of mirrors. Check it out.

    Love the bigs sweater rosettes.

  11. Hi Marcia,
What a lucky find! It looks beautiful above your mantel! I LOVE your mantel display, btw... very pretty! I especially love that mason jar filled with seashells... nice details.

You could try distressing the mirror by using a light weight sandpaper and gently rubbing in areas where you would like to remove some paint, usually where you would find normal wear and tear of an item (corners and where it would be handled when picking it up). I hope that helps a little. :)

    Happy WW!
    Hugs ~ jo

  12. This is a gorgeous beachy white vignette. And you've already got the "distressing" advise..., that's what I would do if I wanted the shabby look. The mirror is very nice in solid white though too!

  13. Beautiful...I am not doing white in my house...but next week I plan to post my Bahama Breeze mirror...there is part of it on my post now...anyway I took a black and gold mirror and spray painted then sanded, and glazed...I like it! My more formal days seem to be leaving my decor

  14. I love your new mirror for summer Marcia. I age things like this easily by rubbing antique wax over the paint. It works really well on things like this with raised areas taking the wax slightly and the other areas still remaining white. It is fun to do too.

I was to wish Randy a belated happy birthday and a very happy anniversary to your parents! What a wonderful example they are to us all after so many years together!

    Hugs from Holland ~

  21. Welcome to White Wednesday! Now you'll be hunting for white things to photograph every week!

Love the mirror - I need a new mirror for my mantle, too. It's #1 on my list of things to look for when at flea markets.

  22. I just got a staining/antiquing medium from DecoArt. I haven't tried it yet, but it might be what you are looking for. You mix it with an acrylic paint (I got traditional raw umber but you can use any color), apply it, and then wipe it back. It would catch in all the detailed areas of the mirror. Teamed up with the sanding that other people mentioned, it would really give some age.

  23. The mirror looks great and I love your display! Sanding and stain would both give it a vintage look. I think either way (leave it or age it)... it looks great! It's beautiful!

  24. I just love what you did~! Just a few weeks back I painted a few items in my hallway..got me a 'white' area in my house, for the first time ever,,lol. I'm REALLY loving it. I ended up getting me a few white mirrors, painted a shelf white, and the hand rails to my stairs white. It looks so crisp and clean. I can't believe how much I'm loving white these days.
    Blessings.

  25. Oh I really love it, I have one that is similar to the one you pictured next to my entry way. On the chandelier I used an antique white paint out of a spray gun. I think spray paint would have the same effect.

  27. Hi Marcia: Thanks for visiting my blog. Your family is beautiful! I love your whites too!

Don't know what others have said by you can always just take either sand paper, a nail file or even a butter knife and peel away the paint as you see fit on that pretty mirror to shabby it up!

I am you newest follwer. I see we have a love of similar things...white, shells, TIFFANYS ;)

  29. I love all of your pretty "whites", mixed with that touch of aqua glass...it sure is heavenly!
Your mirror is pretty the way it is, but if you want to make it look a little older...all you would have to do is dab a very tiny amount of acrylic paint (the little bottles of craft paint at Michaels or Walmart will work),in the color of your choice, onto a dry stiff paint brush and dry brush here and there on it.
I usually just take a paper plate, spread a tiny amount of paint on it...like a dime size, dab the brush lightly into it. Even dab the brush back onto the paper plate so there is really barely any paint on the brush. Then just go along the edges of the mirror, a couple of spots here and there. Play with the colors and look you want to add to rough it up. IF you don't like it, you can always paint it white again! :) It's fun to experiment!!
    Enjoy! :)
